Welcome to Alleghany CARES!


Alleghany CARES, Inc. is a North Carolina non-profit corporation with a tax-free status. Alleghany CARES, Inc. is operated under the direction of a volunteer board of directors.

Our Mission
  • • Collect and process items donated to our facility.
  • • Operate a thrift store selling low cost items.
  • • Give assistance without charge in times of crisis.
  • • Contribute monetarily to needs in the community.


Thrift Store proceeds benefit needs in our community and make the following ministries possible!

Fueling Hope

Application

Provides gasoline vouchers to cancer patients while in active treatment. MUST: provide proof of residency, copy of NC drivers license and verification of their appointments for treatment.

Educational Scholarships

Application

Renewal

For adults and youths. Forty scholarships will be awarded in 2024 (renewal and new).   All applications must be received before March 29, 2024.

Adult Dental Program

Application

This is an income based program for those adults without access to insurance. Financial eligibility: 150% of Federal Poverty Level Cleanings, Fillings or Extractions Appointment with local dentist subject to availability. Download Alleghany CARES Dental application and information sheet.

Hearing Program

Application

Cares hearing program is income based available to Alleghany residents. We are partnering with the Sparta office of Beltone. Complete the application and bring to our office. Should you qualify you will schedule an appointment for your hearing needs. Cares can pay up to $1,000 toward your purchase for a limited number of clients per year.

Vision Program

Application

Income based available to Alleghany residents without insurance coverage and have an emergency need for glasses. Complete the application and bring to our office.

Medication Assistance Program

Application

Assists those that have no health insurance and are on a regular prescription. These medications are provided freely.   We use a local pharmacy program;  NC MedAssist (we are an enrollment site, medications are mailed directly to your home) and help to access the pharmaceutical companies when applicable.

Emergency Relief

Assistance to pay electric cut off, one time prescription and winter crisis fuel assistance (after 32 degree for 3 consecutive days) CALL - 336.372.5959.
